This is the largest insect I have ever seen in the wild. It's about two inches long and was in the middle of the pavement I walk down every day on the way to the train station. Bonus points to anyone who can identify it.

Wait. I thought Guillaume had met with an untimely demise. I guess he just emigrated.
Had it been Guillaume, I would have been more horrified than fascinated, and the occasion would have warranted a shriek rather than a photo. My current best guess is a female stag beetle, which makes it a protected species in England and not something I'd chase with a can of Raid.
